Saffron is thrilled to welcome back Elsa Hewitt to the label for our first release of 2020, with a luscious remix of ‘Vee’ by Beula.

Elsa’s treatment of Vee morphs between swirling and hypnotic electronica and a euphoric 115bpm house jam. Beula’s deep and powerful vocal is sliced, looped and twisted across 5.5 minutes of uplifting electronics, chimes, warped guitars and sax, with warm, rising synths that drift into an ether of melodic haze.

Bristol’s Beula released their debut single ‘Vee’ in October 2019, which The Line of Best Fit called “a hypnotic slice of forward-thinking, fluid noise that skirts a treasure trove of styles with grace”. Beula came together through a mutual love of artists ranging from GoGo Penguin and Tigran Hamasyan through to Little Dragon and Four Tet. In December, their ‘Cryptic Buckling EP’ was released as a collection of tracks that expertly tightrope between intensity and restraint.

Now, we see the Brownswood Bubbler alumni and Lynsey de Paul prize-winner Elsa Hewitt return to Saffron Records, adding her inimitable touch of magic to ‘Vee’. Elsa is a highly prolific artist, having released four albums before she has even turned 30, with a production style of soothing and hypnotic textures that recall the likes of Burial, Julianna Barwick and Laurel Halo. Her 2018 single on Saffron Records, Invisible Threads, received widespread acclaim and tastemaker and radio support from BBC 6Music, WorldwideFM, Triple J and KMAH.
